I am a Reiki Master and believe in healing the body as a whole. My Reiki programmes combine Reiki healing and Cognitive healing practices to create mind, body and spirit healing.

What is Reiki?

Reiki is an ancient healing technique originating from Mikao Usui, a Buddhist monk living in southern Japan in the 1920’s. This spiritual healing technique is a combination of two Japanese words Rei (universal) and Ki (life force/energy). We all have a personal energy field connected by chakras and when these chakras are balanced we are physically and emotionally healthy. When they are blocked, however, this can create imbalances and impact our wellbeing. Reiki healers can heal these imbalances by channeling positive, healing energy which strengthens your body’s ability to heal itself thereby restoring health and wellbeing. Reiki is also now available in some hospitals and NHS community services because of its healing benefits.

I have combined science-based wellbeing practices of positive psychology, mindfulness and mindful self-compassion with Reiki energy healing to create Happy Reiki, Loving Kindness Reiki, Mindful Reiki and Resilient Reiki programmes. This combination not only helps with physiological healing but also mental healing. The key to these Reiki practices is to help you develop a controlled use of attention while at the same time invoke a deep sense of relaxation and negative energy clearing. Attention is like a flashlight that

shines on things you bring to your awareness whether positive or negative. My Reiki programmes are designed to include activities that will increase feel-good chemicals in the brain, promote healing and develop your attention in a way that:

  • Creates positive neural pathways and puts the brake on negative neural activity
  • Creates the release of feel-good chemicals dopamine, oxytocin, serotonin and endorphins
  • Activates parasympathetic nerve activity which allows you to enter a restorative state and decreases sympathetic nerve activity thus reducing the stress hormone cortisol
  • Boosts self-love, empathy and compassion
  • Improves your mood
  • Cultivates positive emotions

 

 

WHAT’S INVOLVED?

Reiki is a calming therapy and is performed with you lying on a massage table, fully clothed. I will then place my hands very lightly on or just above your chakras to channel positive, healing energy into your body and release any blockages. Some of you may experience a tingling sensation, feel warmth or coolness in the areas being healed, fall asleep or even burst into tears as a result of a positive emotional release (emotional issues are present in your energy structures). Should you have an emotional release, it is absolutely normal and ok and I would encourage you to meet this with self-love and kindness. My healing comes from a place of love, compassion and non-judgement with my sole aim to increase wellbeing in your life.

If you find yourself regularly stressed out, going through a challenging period in your life, in need of an emotional boost or wanting to relax, Reiki may be the therapy for you. In addition, I highly recommend any of my Reiki programmes to increase happiness, self-compassion and mindful awareness which all promote wellbeing.

Reiki Programmes

REGULAR REIKI

Regular Reiki consists of 60 or 90 minute sessions of pure Reiki healing. Each session will include:

HAPPY REIKI

This is a 4 week programme consisting of a 60 minute weekly session and fun exercises to do at home. Each session will include:

  • Guided meditation to increase good feelings (either before or during your Reiki healing)
  • Reiki to channel positive, healing energy
  • Gratitude visit
  • Exercises to boost optimism and cultivate positive emotions

Why choose Happy Reiki?

We each have a genetic happiness default set point which means that we can increase our happiness levels in different ways. Scientists have discovered that the brain can change and refer to this as neuroplasticity which means that we can trick the brain into thinking it is happier. Happy Reiki combines positive psychology practices and meditation with Reiki resulting in increased neural activity in the left pre-frontal cortex. More positive activation of this part of the brain is associated with wellbeing because, in effect, you are putting the brakes on negative emotions which are also controlled by this part of the brain. Reiki will reduce stress and lower cortisol levels, visualisation meditation will increase optimism and positive psychology exercises will boost happiness resulting in the release of feel-good chemicals. Over a period of 4 weeks you will begin to feel more positive and happier.

Loving Kindness Reiki

This is a 4 week programme consisting of a 60 minute weekly session and exercises to do at home. Each session will include:

  • Guided loving kindness meditation (either before or during your Reiki healing)
  • Reiki to channel positive, healing energy
  • Gratitude visit
  • Self-compassion exercises to increase kindness and self-love

Why choose loving kindness Reiki?

Studies have shown that when you practice loving kindness meditation you increase positive emotions and feelings of goodwill, kindness and warmth towards self and others which increases life-satisfaction and wellbeing. We know that the brain is shaped by our activities so regularly practicing loving-kindness meditation activates and strengthens areas of the brain responsible for empathy & emotional intelligence. Combining Reiki and loving kindness meditation will not only reduce stress and strengthen positive emotions but also open up your heart chakra and shift any emotional blocks which may be preventing you from moving forward and living optimally. LKR will help you to enter a relaxing and restorative state activating your parasympathetic nervous system thereby decreasing the release of the stress related hormone cortisol.

MINDFUL REIKI

This is a 4 week programme consisting of a 60 minute weekly session and exercises to do at home. Each session will include:

  • Guided mindfulness body scan meditation which brings awareness to your body
  • Reiki to channel positive, healing energy
  • Gratitude visit
  • Mindfulness exercises to increase mindful savouring, appreciation and positive awareness in your life (these will be given to you to do at home in your own time)

Why choose Mindful Reiki?

According to Jon Kabat-Zinn, mindfulness is ‘paying attention in a particular way on purpose, in the present moment and non-judgementally.’ With regular, consistent mindfulness practice you can learn to thoughtfully respond rather than automatically react and bring awareness to your thoughts, feelings and behaviour. This means you can consciously reduce negative thinking and focus on creating positive thoughts and experiences which will change your brain structure in a way that improves mental and physical health. MRI scans of individuals that regularly and consistently practice mindfulness show that the amygdala, the brains’ ‘fight of flight’ centre shrinks. This is beneficial because when you are in a state of chronic stress, you are in effect in ‘fight or flight’ mode and cortisol is released which can create havoc with your health. There is also a connection between the ‘fight or flight’ part of your brain and your pre-frontal cortex which means when your amygdala shrinks, your pre-frontal cortex thickens and this is associated with increased executive function and awareness. Mindful Reiki practices aim to positively change these parts of your brain so as to reduce cortisol, increase mindful awareness, cultivate positive emotions, put the brakes on negative emotions, restore balance, clear emotional blockages and produce wellbeing.
